Around 75% of UK manufactured construction equipment is exported, but this is not always an easy business. Exchange rates, trade barriers and lack of market information can be big hurdles. The International Business Group (IBG)meetings are a forum for CEA members to discuss export markets with their associated challenges and opportunities. A typical IBG Meeting would include a country speaker (recent meetings have covered Turkey, Mongolia, North America, Algeria, India, Iraq, Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia), together with either a commercial export expert or government representative. Topics covered include: export finance, freight, documentation, customs, currency exchange, cultural differences, language and translation and many more.
A valuable element of the IBG are the networking opportunities it affords. Meeting with OEMs and companies from all parts of the supply chain can give members a real insight into which export markets are worth exploring, how the distribution chain works – and how best to access it.
Any CEA member is welcome to join the IBG. Meetings are held quarterly, usually at a members’ premises. Networking lunches provide great opportunities to talk to fellow exporting members.
