Taylor Construction Plant Ltd (TCP) hydrogen fuel cell lighting tower ‘Ecolite-TH2’ has been embraced by one of the leading portable rail equipment hire providers, Torrent Trackside. The two companies are now working together to promote the Ecolite fuel cell product range to the rail industry as way of reducing carbon emissions.

Torrent Trackside, who were recently voted winner of the category ‘Best Performing Small Plant Supplier’ by Rail Live, has committed to the promotion of greener cleaner lighting tower by adding units of the Ecolite-TH2 to their hire fleet. To raise awareness of the product which has zero emissions, Torrent Trackside took to the road with the TCP Ecolite team to showcase the lighting tower innovation to its customers.

Leigh Miller, Regional Operations Manager for Torrent Trackside Ltd, commented: “As soon as we looked at the light and the ingenuity of it, we realised just how fantastic this product was.  We started a ‘road show’ jointly, primarily around Wales, then England and most-recently Glasgow.  Since working in collaboration with the TCP team, we can clearly see the synergy between TCP and Torrent Trackside, who are both wanting to promote innovation and quality.  We have had nothing but positive feedback from our customer base throughout the UK and fantastic support and team-work with TCP”.

The Ecolite fuel cell product range is powered by BOC’s HYMERA fuel cell and operates as a battery hybrid. With no internal combustion engine or harmful emissions, these products can be used in enclosed spaces and provides a solution for environmentally sensitive areas where there must be zero risk of contamination.

The BOC HYMERA fuel cell produces energy by combining hydrogen with oxygen (from the atmosphere) to produce electricity and water. There are no carbon or particulate emissions as would be the case with a conventional diesel-powered generator. In addition, the process is virtually silent which is important for work at night, in built-up areas and enclosed spaces. This means users of the Ecolite fuel cell product range can easily comply to the section 61 noise pollution act.

“We are delighted to be working alongside Torrent Trackside in the promotion of our Ecolite-TH2 which was recently shortlisted for Most Innovative Small Plant’ at the recent Rail Live event,” says Simon Meades, Product Manager for TCP Ecolite. “Our hydrogen fuel light tower provides the ideal solution for industries looking to reduce costs, emissions and carbon footprint. As market leaders within the rail industry, Torrent Trackside are perfectly positioned to help us deliver this message.”
