Why Colombia? Colombia has South America’s third biggest GDP and, despite an adverse economic climate, its growth has outpaced that of Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru. The country has been enjoying economic and political stability allied to much-improved security conditions. Market-oriented reforms introduced in the last decade contributed to the formation of a thriving oil and gas market, which has attracted a number of foreign oil companies (the oil sector received $4.81 billion in foreign direct investment last year) and contributed to an oil production of approximately 1 million barrels per day in 2014.
